Wegmans Receives Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, here won kudos for its policies in support of food-allergic shoppers, from The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), a nonprofit patient advocacy group.

FAAN said Wegmans earned the award for its longstanding history of adopting policies to accommodate the needs of food-allergic shoppers, including providing allergen training to associates, and posting signs within its stores to inform customers about the possibility of cross-contact with allergens in areas where fresh food items are being prepared.

"Wegmans has shown us what can be done to educate the public and keep allergic consumers safe," noted FAAN founder and c.e.o. Anne Muñoz-Furlong in a statement. "Through their actions, they have shown their dedication to their consumer base. Until there is a cure for food allergies, education and awareness is key. Wegmans is more than deserving of this award."

The chain was recognized under the food industry category, as part of the 10th Annual Mariel C. Furlong Awards for Making a Difference. The awards honor individuals and organizations for providing outstanding service and contributions to aid people with food allergies.
