Wegmans Goes Retro for 40th Anniversary in Syracuse

Wegmans' current logo
The 10 Wegmans stores in the Syracuse, N.Y. area will mark the supermarket operator's 40th anniversary in the market in a unique fashion -- by going back in time.

On Saturday Store associates will sport hats and nametags featuring the original Wegmans logo from 1968. It was on Dec. 9 of that year when the Rochester, N.Y.-based company first entered the Syracuse market with the opening of its John Glenn store.

As an added celebratory touch, the locations will serve cake from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., offer food samples of recipes from the Holiday issue of Wegmans' Menu Magazine, and give away four $100 gift cards.

One-hundred sixty-five employees in the Syracuse division are also celebrating a milestone of their own: They've worked at Wegmans for 25 years or longer.
