Wegmans' Chase-Pitman Rochester Stores to Close Earlier Than Planned
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans-owned Chase-Pitkin Home & Garden Centers will begin liquidating its 10 stores here Nov. 27, and all locations will close earlier than originally scheduled.
The liquidation process normally takes 12 to 16 weeks, Bob Strassburg, Chase-Pitkin's president, told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. A liquidation sale is currently occurring at the Chase-Pitkin in Big Flats, near Elmira, N.Y., he noted.
Wegmans said last month that it had decided to close all 14 stores because of stiff competition from such major players as Home Depot and Lowes. The Big Flats and Clay stores were to be closed by the end of March, with the rest of the stores to follow suit later.
Chairman Robert B. Wegman said the company wanted to concentrate on the growth of its grocery operations, now 69 stores in five states.
