Wal-Mart, Sam's Club Announce Cross Acceptance of Private-Label Credit Cards

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores is making it easier for customers to use its private-label credit cards, thanks to a new program in which Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will accept each other's cards.

Sam's Club members who hold Wal-Mart credit cards and Wal-Mart Community & Business cards can now use them to charge items at any Sam's Club in the United States and Puerto Rico. Sam's Club Credit members can use their Personal Credit cards or Business Revolving Credit cards to buy merchandise at Wal-Mart discount stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets.

"The cross-acceptance of Wal-Mart and Sam's Club credit cards is an added benefit to card holders, offering them more payment options and greater convenience when shopping at our stores and clubs," said Tom Schoewe, chief financial officer of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "With nine out of every 10 Sam's Club Credit card holders already shopping at Wal-Mart, we think they will welcome one-card convenience."

As an added benefit, some four million Wal-Mart credit card holders are receiving Sam's Club one-day passes. These provide Wal-Mart customers the opportunity to shop for a day and check out the outstanding values before joining Sam's Club. Existing Sam's Club members who receive the pass can share it with a family member or a friend.

Additionally, millions of Sam's Club members with existing credit were recently mailed a newly designed membership card with cross-accept functionality.

"We are excited about this credit enhancement because it was designed specifically as a result of customer and member requests," Schoewe added.
