Wal-Mart Nets Wild American Shrimp

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- As part of its push to up the quality of its offerings, Wal-Mart has begun to carry certified Wild American Shrimp in nearly 900 locations.

"We are committed to providing our customers with the absolute highest quality products and, if possible, from local U.S. suppliers," said Peter Redmond, Wal-Mart's v.p. of seafood. "What's more, this partnership also helps to sustain an important industry and traditional way of life in our country. We're happy to be able to provide our customers with this premium selection."

Participating Wal-Mart stores will now carry fresh-frozen domestic shrimp in full-service seafood sections, which will be available to customers in time for Thanksgiving and the holiday season, with most locations already stocking product.

"We're pleased to partner with as storied a retailer and valued member of the community as Wal-Mart," said Mark Watters, director of retail operations for Penguin Frozen Foods, one of the nation's largest suppliers of certified Wild American Shrimp.

Devoting its resources to raising public awareness about the nutritional and economic benefits of domestic, wild-caught shrimp, Wild American Shrimp campaign is designed to educating consumers about the advantages of asking for Wild American shrimp that grows naturally, is caught fresh and that supports the shrimp industry of eight Gulf and South Atlantic states.
