Wal-Mart HR Director Retires

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said on Friday that Coleman Peterson retired as head of human resources, and said it was looking for a replacement.

The company said Peterson would stay on until April 30 to help with the transition, and would then "provide ongoing counsel and services" to the company.

Spokeswoman Sharon Weber told Reuters that Wal-Mart had not yet named a replacement, and was considering both internal and external candidates. Later on Friday, the company said it was "considering all of its options."

Peterson has worked for Wal-Mart for 10 years. He was previously with Venture Stores of St. Louis.

Wal-Mart, the largest U.S. private sector employer with 1.5 million employees worldwide, faces dozens of lawsuits alleging discrimination and violations of wage-and-hour laws. The retailer is also under investigation following a federal roundup of illegal cleaning crews at some of its stores.
