Wal-Mart to Enhance Online and In-store Digital Photofinishing Services

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart plans to enhance its online photo service this fall by providing an online sharing, storing, and printing experience, as well as in-store fulfillment for online orders.

The new service will be provided through a new relationship with Fujifilm and HP's Snapfish. The updated online service will continue to provide Wal-Mart customers with the ability to upload, share, store, and get prints from their digital photos. Prints will continue to be available for home delivery through the mail or in-store pick-up at more than 3,500 Wal-Mart locations in as little as one hour. In addition, consumers will be offered a wider array of photo-related products and services -- more than 90 unique photo products -- including calendars, mugs, mouse pads, and teddy bears.

"We are very excited about the future growth of online digital photo services," said Sharon Wibben, v.p. of photo and connection centers at Wal-Mart. "As the company that supported Wal-Mart's move to digital in 2000, Fujifilm has provided great technology to support our online and in-store solutions, which has greatly improved the customer experience in both channels. The addition of HP's Snapfish capabilities will give our customer's access to the latest innovations in photo processing while providing more choices and solutions."

In 2004, Wal-Mart worked with Fujifilm to create the industry's first one-hour online photo service that allows same day pick-up in more than 3,500 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club locations nationwide. Fujifilm will continue to provide the complete end-to-end solution, including the customer Web site experience, for online printing to the labs for Sam's Club.

Just last week, HP and Wal-Mart announced plans to place the recently introduced HP Photosmart Studio in a total of 50 Wal-Mart stores and Sam's Club locations nationwide.

The deal increases the number of units from the four installed in the retailers' stores during a pilot period. The HP Photosmart Studio allows consumers to design creative products in minutes and pick them up in one hour -- all without having to crop or place photos into individual templates.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. operates Wal-Mart Stores, Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and Sam's Club locations in the United States. The company also operates in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
