Valu Discount to Buy Two Buehler Foods Units

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Valu Discount, Inc., based here, said it has signed an agreement with Buehler Foods Group, Jasper, Ind., to buy two of the grocer's stores. The stores are located in Louisville and in Mt. Washington. Valu Discount also said it will purchase all of the equipment and fixtures inside a recently closed Buehler's Market here.

"This is the best opportunity for growth for ValuMarket since A&P left the Louisville market in 1981," said Greg Neumann, Valu Discount, Inc.'s president. He said the company intends to interview and hire existing Buehler's Market employees for the stores, which will be converted to ValuMarket format.

Assuming a closing date on the deal of November 13th, Valu Discount, Inc. plans transfer the two units to the ValuMarket banner without business interruption.

Valu Discount, Inc. owns and operates three other stores in the Louisville area under the ValuMarket banner. The retailer said it has been serving the Louisville community since 1978, and is the largest locally owned grocery chain in the Louisville area.
