United Natural Foods Names New Eastern Region President

DAYVILLE, Conn. -- As part of its strategic initiative to enhance management depth and capitalize on growth opportunities, United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), based here, said yesterday that v.p. of distribution Michael D. Beaudry had been appointed president of the eastern region, effective immediately. In his new role Beaudry reports directly to United Natural Foods e.v.p. and c.o.o. Richard Antonelli, and guides day-to-day operations and customer support for the company's eastern region.

Beaudry, who joined UNFI in 1999, has been the company's v.p. of distribution since August 2003. Earlier he was v.p. of operations, eastern region, from December 2002 to August 2003; director of operations, eastern region, from December 2001 to December 2002; and warehouse and operations manager of the Dayville facility from December 1999 to December 2001. Before coming to UNFI, Beaudry worked at Target Corp., Exchange Novelty, and Clo-Shure Inc., where he served in several senior-level operational management positions.

"Michael has been integral [to] our growth, and we believe this [is] a natural transition, given his extensive operating experience, leadership skills, and in-depth knowledge of our operations and customer base," noted Antonelli in a statement. "Additionally, this new assignment strengthens the breadth and depth of our management team, and helps ensure that we have the resources in place to continue to capitalize on growth opportunities in the rapidly growing natural products market."

UNFI carries and distributes more than 40,000 items to over 20,000 customers across the country, serving such retail formats as conventional supermarket chains, natural product superstores, independent retail operators, and the foodservice channel.
