The United Family Honors Annual Scholarship Winners
The United Family has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to 52 students, all of whom were honored at the Lubbock, Texas-based grocer's recent United Supermarkets Scholarship Student Celebration lunch.
“The United Family is proud to acknowledge these deserving scholarship recipients who are continuing their education in so many different fields of study,” said Shelby Crews, senior community relations manager for The United Family. “These scholarships are intended to provide financial assistance for students to have successful and memorable collegiate experiences, while mapping out their plans to change the world.”
Scholarships were awarded in several areas, including the Texas Tech University Graduate Endowment, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy and Vernon College Dual Credit Scholarships, which are school-specific awards. The United Supermarkets College Savings Scholarships were also awarded to current United Family team members and may be used wherever that team member chooses to pursue their education.
The event also included a keynote address by Adam Braun, New York Times bestselling author and founder of Pencils of Promise, an organization that has broken ground on more than 300 schools and delivered more than 25 million education hours to children in poverty around the world.
The United Family operates 66 stores under five unique banners: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos, Albertsons Market and United Express, as well as ancillary operations R.C. Taylor Distributing, Praters and Llano Logistics.
