UNFI Launches Fish Products from Sustainably Managed Stocks

DAYVILLE, Conn. -- In a bid to support more sustainable fishing practices, Natural Sea, a brand that's distributed by United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) here, is partnering with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

Natural Sea salmon products are sourced from an Alaska salmon fishery that was the first U.S. fishery to be certified sustainable by MSC, according to UNFI. The products will now carry the blue MSC seal on their labels.

"We are firmly convinced that sustaining our ability to harvest food from the seas is the only responsible course for the future," said Dan Atwood, e.v.p. of UNFI, in a statement.

United Natural Foods, Inc. carries and distributes more than 40,000 products to more than 18,000 customers nationwide. The company serves a wide variety of retail formats, including conventional supermarket chains, natural product superstores, independent retail operators, and the foodservice channel.
