Ukrop's to Build Four New Stores in Richmond, Va.
RICHMOND, Va. - Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO of regional supermarket retailer Ukrop's, on Monday announced that the company will invest $40 million to open four new stores in Richmond, Va. in the next two years.
The stores will have an emphasis on one-stop shopping and will include more "health and wellness" foods and services, he said at a press conference.
One 60,000-foot store in John Rolfe Commons will have special amenities that no other Ukrop's has ever seen, according to a report from Richmond.com. The multi-level complex will have a Family Physicians Ltd. office in addition to a First Market Bank center, dry cleaning services, cafe seating, banquet space, a juice and coffee bar, self-check-out lines, a drive-thru pharmacy, a wellness center and a fitness center with a spa.
Additional First Market Bank branches in the new store locations will bring the in-store total number of branches to 24, with 8 free-standing, traditional branches.
The vast majority of construction work is to be done by local firms, with $3-4 million of the $20 million in building costs to go to minority businesses.
The new stores will bring Ukrop's store count to 31 in Richmond, Petersburg, Williamsburg and Fredericksburg.
