Tyson Funds Scholarships Through Congressional Black Caucus Foundation
SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Tyson Foods, Inc. based here has donated $26,000 to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) to support the non-profit organization's leadership education efforts.
A majority of the money will be used to fund CBCF scholarships in six congressional districts where Tyson operates plants including districts represented by: Rep. Sanford Bishop of Georgia, Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi. It also includes the state of Illinois represented by Senator Barak Obama.
"As a company, we know the importance of developing and preparing our people," said John Tyson, chairman and c.e.o. of Tyson Foods. "That's why we appreciate the efforts of the CBCF to train future leaders through scholarships and educational programs. We're confident our contribution will go to good use."
The Tyson Family Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarship money each year to the company's team members and their children, as well as other students. Tyson Foods and the Tyson Family Foundation also support scholarships provided through other organizations, schools and scholarship funds.

Thousands of students have received millions of dollars in scholarships through CBCF, allowing them to continue their studies. More than 1,000 interns and scores of fellows have gained experience working in congressional offices-- enhancing their marketability in the job force.
The CBCF was established in 1976 as a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute. The organization's mission is to serve as the non-partisan policy-oriented catalyst that educates future leaders and promotes collaboration among legislators, business leaders, minority-focused organizational leaders, and organized labor to effect positive and sustainable change in the African American community.
