Two Central New York P&C Stores to Close
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two underperforming P&C supermarkets owned by Penn Traffic here are said to be scheduled to close by the end of the year. The two locations are in the Syracuse suburbs of Cicero and Fairmount.
Penn Traffic Marc Jampole told Newsday that the retailer will also shut down two freestanding drugstores it runs in western New York, and has already sold a Quality Foods grocery store. He said it was possible that some employees of the closing supermarkets might be transferred to other area P&Cs.
A total of 200 employees stand to be affected by the store closings and sale.
Penn Traffic, which recently appointed Robert Panasuk its president and c.e.o., has been beset by financial woes in recent years, and emerged from the second of two bankruptcies last year.
