Tops Reopens 9 Stores Under Own Banner

Tops Markets LLC has debuted nine former Grand Union stores in Vermont and New York under the Tops banner in same-day grand-reopening ceremonies.

Ceremonies featured an accounting of capital improvements made at each store, as well as donations made by Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.

“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities and an increased variety of products that our neighborhood stores will offer,” noted Frank Curci, president and CEO of Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops, “and we want to continue the tradition of being active members of the local community.”

According to Curci, individual store improvements vary by store, but all now feature a wider variety and selection of popular brands, interior and exterior renovations, and refinished storefronts.

Tops acquired the nine locations as part of a 21-store acquisition that closed in July 2012. All of the former Grand Union stores will be converted to the Tops banner through the end of 2013.

Employing more than 15,000 associates, Tops operates 159 full-service supermarkets -- 154 company-owned and five franchise locations -- under the Tops, Grand Union and Bryant’s banners in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
