Tops Markets Rolls Out 'Gas Extra Rewards' Program
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- In answer to rising fuel prices, Ahold USA banner Tops Markets here this week launched Gas Extra Rewards, a program offering customers discounts the next time they fill up their gas tanks at participating Tops Markets or Martin's Super Food Stores in greater Buffalo.
Also this week, Tops revived a jingle from the 1980s and 1990s, "Tops Never Stops," which will again appear in advertisements, starting ads supporting the Gas Extra Rewards program.
"Our main focus in 2006 is on strengthening Tops Markets' commitment to the Western New York community," said Tops e.v.p. and g.m. Max Henderson in a statement. "A number of new programs and initiatives will be implemented over the next several months and, by partnering the new with an old favorite jingle, we are once again positioned to show that Tops never stops giving our customers more."
In the fuel program, for every $100 spent at a Tops or Martin's store, shoppers using a Bonuscard get 10 cents per gallon of gas off the next time they fill up. There's no limit to how many Gas Extra Rewards points a customer can earn, and each qualifying grocery dollar will be accumulated at the bottom of the grocery receipt as a Gas Extra Rewards point. Points that have been earned at participating stores that don't have an on-site gas station can be redeemed at other stores offering gas.
Shoppers can redeem points by scanning their Bonuscards at the pump and choosing 'yes' if they'd like to use their earned Gas Extra Rewards discount at that time. Then the customers can select their payment options and grade of gasoline and pump. Once 100 points have been redeemed for 10 cents off per gallon of gas, shoppers will need to start amassing points again. Customers also have the choice of letting their Gas Extra Rewards points build.
The promotion will run through April 1, and all points have to be redeemed by April 15. As in other Tops/Martin's Extra Rewards programs, Gas Extra Rewards promotions will be offered periodically throughout the year at participating locations.
"Building on a familiar brand with the 'Tops Never Stops' tagline, we will continue to analyze how best to move both the Tops and Martin's brands forward in our advertising and promotional campaigns," said Denny Hopkins, v.p. of advertising and public relations. "A variety of themes will be present in our print, radio, and TV campaigns, all of which will focus on Tops' commitment to quality, customer savings and community giving."
Tops, one of four retail operating companies under Ahold USA, is a division of Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food Stores. Employing almost 18,000 associates, Tops operates 128 Tops Markets and five Martin's Super Food Stores in a three-state market area.
