Tops Leases More Office Space
To address the issue of its expanding work force, Tops Markets, LLC said yesterday that it has reached an agreement with Uniland Partnership of Delaware, L.P. to lease additional office space in its hometown of Williamsville, N.Y. to accommodate 100 new and existing employees.
Tops will lease 22,918 square feet of space at 75 Earhart Drive from Amherst, N.Y.-based Uniland Development Co. About 100 associates in the grocer's accounting, finance, and IT departments will work at the site. Tops is hiring new accounting staff as the formerly Ahold USA-owned company reintegrates that function into its operations.
The regional grocer has recently added about 7,000 square feet of space to its corporate headquarters at 6363 Main Street in Williamsville, in the building it shares with National Fuel Gas Corp.
"As anticipated, we did not have enough space in our expanded headquarters to accommodate the number of new jobs we are bringing to the Tops team and to western New York," noted Tops president and c.e.o. Frank Curci. "As the transformation into a locally operated company progresses, we saw the need to take on this additional space."
Tops Markets has pledged to hire about 140 new associates from western New York, a commitment first made in March, when the company decided to keep its headquarters in the region.
Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops operates 71 full-service supermarkets and five franchise supermarkets, and employs over 10,000 associates.
