Three SC Kerr Drug Stores Open Health Centers

ALEIGH, S.C. -- Chain pharmacy Kerr Drug here yesterday opened SmartCare Family Medical Centers at three of its stores in South Carolina.

The health centers, from Greenwood Village, Colo.-based SmartCare, offer basic health services such as flu shots and other immunizations, treatments for common ailments such as sore throats, ear infections, and seasonal allergies, as well as school and employment physicals and cholesterol screenings. Each SmartCare Center is staffed by nurse practitioners and certified medical assistants, with a physician on call at all times.

"SmartCare Centers offer consumers no-appointment-necessary healthcare services, with extended day and weekend hours, that are a convenient complement to existing physician relationships," said Lawrence W. Hay, c.e.o. of SmartCare.

The South Carolina SmartCare openings coincide with the August observance of National Immunization Awareness Month and will provide no-appointment-necessary back-to-school immunizations for children over the age of 12 months and adults.

SmartCare will also offer complimentary bone density analyses, dermascans, and body fat analyses, and $10 cholesterol screenings through Oct. 31. Coupons for these complimentary and discounted services will be distributed via mail and at Kerr Drug stores and SmartCare Centers throughout the promotion.
