Tesco Purchases 165 Digital Minilabs

UNITED KINGDOM - The Tesco chain here is making a major commitment to digital photo processing, having contracted to buy 165 DKS 1550 digital minilabs from digital imaging company Photo-Me International plc (PMI), half of which are expected to be installed by April 2005. In the United Kingdom, Tesco operates 1,878 stores.

The DKS 1550 minilab, which has an output of up to 1,500 prints per hour from both digital and analogue media, was awarded the industry-leading DIMA minilab prize for the second successive year at the Photo Marketing Association Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas.

"As photography moves inexorably from conventional film to digital media, there is a huge opportunity for retailers," said PMI c.e.o. Crasnianski. "Tesco's decision is a vote of confidence in both the market and PMI."
