Sweet’N Low Raising Obesity, Diabetes Awareness

Sweet’N Low’s partnership with Emmy Award-winning physician Dr. Luis Pacheco to help raise awareness of the United States’ growing obesity and diabetes epidemic will include a radio media tour in November during Diabetes Awareness Month.

Additionally, the iconic zero-calorie sweetener brand and Dr. Pacheco are producing two videos, one in English and one in Spanish, with the aim of teaching viewers about healthy alternatives to a high-sugar diet. The Sweet’N Low-Pacheco partnership began in August and runs through the end of January 2014.

“By using [Sweet’N Low] as a replacement for sugar, consumers [can] cut calories and manage their sugar intake while still enjoying their favorite sweet foods and beverages,” noted Pacheco, who was also the medical expert for Univision’s KMEX TV Los Angeles-Channel 34, where he had a daily health segment, “Ask the Doctor.” He’s currently the medical director of the Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at California Hospital Medical Center.

“Dr. Pacheco’s expertise, commitment, and extensive work in the diabetes and obesity arena make him the perfect fit for our campaign,” added Steven Eisenstadt, president and CEO of Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Cumberland Packing Corp., the manufacturer of Sweet’N Low.

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 1.9 million new cases of diabetes diagnosed annually.
