Sweetbay Supermarket Teams with Tampa Bay Rays Baseball
Sweetbay Supermarkets on Friday became the first supermarket chain to agree to a multiyear partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays major league baseball team. As part of the agreement, Tampa, Fla.-based Sweetbay will have signage at Tropicana Field, the home of the Rays, and promotion on Rays television and radio broadcasts.
Sweetbay will be the Rays official baseball and softball headquarters and will collaborate with the team on fundraising efforts to benefit area youth baseball and softball programs. Parents can sign up their kids for the chance to announce "Play ball!" from the field prior to a Rays home game through the "Sweetbay Play Ball Kid" contest.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sweetbay Supermarkets is wholly owned by Delhaize Group.
