Supervalu to Expand Board; Promotes Haugarth, Pylipow to EVPs

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu will add new blood to the board, in the form of three new directors imported from Albertsons Inc. The move will expand the board to 14 directors, upon the closing of Supervalu's acquisition of parts of Albertsons.

The new directors -- all of who currently serve on the board for Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons -- are Gary Ames, retired president and c.e.o. of MediaOne International; Wayne Sales, vice chairman of Canadian Tire Corp.; and Kathi Seifert, retired e.v.p. of Kimberly-Clark Corp.

The board appointments will become official on the closing date of the proposed transaction, or the second day of business after Supervalu's June 28 shareholders meeting, whichever is later.

The company also announced the promotions of Janel Haugarth to e.v.p. of retail and wholesale supply chain, and Dave Pylipow to e.v.p. of human resources.

Haugarth currently serves as s.v.p., president, and c.o.o. supply chain services. A 29-year Supervalu veteran, Haugarth has held management positions in distribution and finance, as well as a variety of positions in merchandising and marketing. Pylipow currently is s.v.p. of human resources. He joined the company in 1998 as s.v.p. of human resources for Save-A-Lot, and was promoted to s.v.p. of human resources for Supervalu in 2004.
