Superquinn Adopts Beef DNA Verifying System
DUBLIN, Ireland -- Superquinn is the only supermarket in the world to guarantee the absolute traceability of all its beef from pasture to plate using a DNA system, the Irish chain has announced.
The company uses a system called "TraceBack," which was developed at Trinity College by IdentiGento to ensure its Irish beef can be traced using DNA testing back to the farm of origin.
The tracing system works using the precision of DNA technology, "reading" each animal's DNA code to make it easy to identify not only the farm the animal has come from, but also the actual animal of origin.
The scheme allows the grocery operation to audit and inspect the paper systems and the wider quality systems the company has in place.
