Super Stop & Shop Debuts in Exeter, N.H.

QUINCY, Mass. -- A Super Stop & Shop has officially opened yesterday in Exeter, N.H. -- its seventh in the state -- less than a year after rival Shaw's introduced its own super-sized location a short distance away in the nearby town of Stratham.

"The demographics of the area are perfect," said general manager David Floyd in the Portsmouth, N.H. Herald. "What we are offering is a one-stop place for everyone with competitive pricing and a wide range of merchandising."

Open 24 hours except for Saturday and Sunday nights, the 65,000-square-foot Stop & Shop employs at least 50 full-time and over 200 part-time workers, and offers approximately 50,000 products for sale.

Amenities at the store include a Boston Market takeout counter; a Starbucks slated to open next month; a bigger-than-average Citizens Bank branch; a WiFi cafe area coming soon; an expanded deli department and custom cut-meat counter with five full-time butchers; a sushi bar; Staples office supplies; a florist section with two full-time florists available to handle large catered events; a Best Sellers area for magazines, books, DVDs, and video games; and huge produce and organic food sections.

Among the innovations created expressly for the Super Stop & Shop in Exeter, as well as the one that opened last week in Milford, N.H. are an increase in direct pricing comparison labels, bargain-focused aisles, and the ability for customers to create customized six-packs of various craft beers.

Stop & Shop said that it planned further expansion, but officials were not available yesterday to identify specific sites.

Employing over 60,000 workers, Ahold-owned Stop & Shop operates 376 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New York.
