In-Store Action at Marketechnics
Washington, D.C. -- Sweetbay Supermarkets, A&P, and Giant-Landover were part of the in-store systems buzz at the FMI Marketechnics show held here this week.
Delhaize America-owned Kash n' Karry/Sweetbay plans to install Linux-based Beetle point-of-sale systems from Austin, Texas-based Wincor-Nixdorf. The sealed-chassis Beetle /S systems running Red Hat Linux are currently being rolled out at Sweetbay units, a new store brand concept that will transform the Kash n' Karry grocery chain. The systems have already been installed at Delhaize subsidiary Victory Super Markets' 19 locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
A&P signed a 3-year services agreement covering all of its stores' point-of-sale terminals, peripherals, and U-Scan self-checkout systems in the U.S. and Canada. The agreement includes on-site maintenance, U-Scan equipment staging and integration, and installation and removal for all new store openings and closings as required. Fujitsu will provide services for IBM POS terminals and peripoherals, IBM in-store processors and peripherals, and Fujitsu U-Scan self-checkout lanes.
Giant Foods of Landover, Md. completed its rollout of Fujitsu point-of-sale hardware and loyalty software to the chain's 200 stores throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. The rollout is part of parent company Ahold's objective to consolidate POS hardware platforms for its Giant-Landover and Stop & Shop chains. Stop & Shop has used Fujitsu or its predecessor POS systems for more than 25 years.
