Stop & Shop Sends Food and Supply-Filled Trailers to WTC Rescue Workers

NORTH HAVEN, Ct., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company announced today loaded and delivered two tractor-trailers with food and supplies to New York City for the rescue crews assisting in the emergency disaster relief efforts.

Included in the transport are hundreds of thousands of items ranging from sliced deli meats and sports drinks to surgical masks and energy bars. Stop & Shop associates
are transporting the goods in two refrigerated trucks to the Salvation Army staging area on West 14th Street in Manhattan. The trailers will remain at the Salvation
Army headquarters to assist in feeding rescue crews over the next several days.

Today also marks the launch of the American Heroes Fund to benefit victims of the September 11th tragedies. Stop & Shop, along with all of the operating companies of its parent, Ahold USA, created this program to raise funds for the victims and their families. The program is designed to allow customers and associates to make contributions at any of the 318 Stop & Shop supermarkets. Ahold USA operating companies will support the program by matching funds collectively raised (dollar for dollar) up to $1 million. All of the dollars raised through the American Heroes Fund will be given to the victims and families affected by this national tragedy.
