Stop & Shop Joins BoSox, Mets to 'Strike Out' Kids' Cancer

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. here said yesterday that it has rolled out its "Triple Winner Game," a program with the goal of raising $5 million for the Jimmy Fund and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to fight childhood cancer.

Working in tandem with the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets, Stop & Shop will seek to add to the $32 million previously raised by the Ahold-owned retailers' associates, customers, and suppliers over the past 15 years.

The Triple Winner Game is a scratch card promotion in which every ticket is an instant winner of a free product, gift card, or cash prize of as much as $10,000. The program, which runs until July 8, 2006, allows customers who make a $1 donation at any Stop & Shop location to receive a Triple Winner Game ticket.

"Through Triple Winner, it has been Stop & Shop's mission to fight childhood cancer," said new Stop & Shop president and c.e.o. Jose Alvarez in a statement. "Because of this program, we have helped to create genuine hope and provide enhanced medical care and cancer research being conducted by some of the finest medical minds in the country."

Continuing their support of the program, the Sox and the Mets will promote Triple Winner at home games at Fenway Park and Shea Stadium this summer.

All money raised from the Triple Winner program in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island will directly benefit the Jimmy Fund and the Stop & Shop Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic, while all money from the game in New York and New Jersey is earmarked for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Stop & Shop operates 376 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey.
