Stop & Shop Donates $1.4 M for Local Hungry; Continues Tsunami Relief Efforts
QUINCY, Mass. -- While providing charitable funds to aid tsunami victims, Stop & Shop has also raised $1.4 million to assist the hungry at home.
Stop & Shop’s $1.4 million donation, raised through its annual Food for Friends program for local hunger relief agencies and Second Harvest Food Bank partners, exceeding the chain’s own expectations by nearly half a million dollars. American Express contributed $150,000 to help make the effort an enormous success, the retailer said.
Stop & Shop, and its corporate colleague, Landover, Md.-based Giant Food, are also donating $50,000 in response to the devastation caused by earthquakes and tidal waves that impacted dozens of countries in Asia and Africa.
