Stop & Shop and Mets Pitcher in Charity Play

QUINCY, Mass. -- New York Mets Pitcher Aaron Heilman and his wife, Kerri, made an appearance at a Stop & Shop in the Forest Hills section of Queens, N.Y. on Friday to share their favorite sugar cookie recipe -- and sign a few autographs -- as part of the rollout of "GourMets New York Mets Family Cookbook," introduced by the baseball club and the Ahold banner to benefit Food Bank for New York City and Island Harvest food bank.

Also on hand were beloved team mascot "Mr. Met" (who is also depicted in the promotional signage), Elvin Ramos of Island Harvest, and Stop & Shop consumer advisor Andrea Astrachan, recently named a Top Woman in Grocery by Progressive Grocer.

The cookbook, a year in the making and currently in its second printing, consists of over 40 recipes from Mets players and coaches. It's available for $12 at the Mets Team Store at Shea Stadium and on the Mets' Web site, and for $8 at Stop & Shop locations in New York and Long Island.

The promotion is expected to last through the end of baseball season, a Stop & Shop spokesman told Progressive Grocer.
