Stater Bros. Starts Stocking Up New Norton Cold DC

Stater Bros. Markets said it would complete its first delivery of refrigerated products to a new 2.1 million-square-foot Norton distribution center in San Bernardino, Calif. this morning, as it begins to transfer perishables from its current produce DC in Colton.

The delivery marks a big step in Stater Bros.’ consolidation of cold space into a single state-of-the-art facility. The Norton DC replaces eight Stater Bros. DCs, which were located in Colton, Redlands, and Mira Loma.

"Over 90 percent of our perishables will be coming out of our new energy efficient refrigerated DC,” said chairman and c.e.o. Jack H. Brown.

The new DC is scheduled to begin full operation this month, with multiple temperature zones that range from 55 degrees Fahrenheit to -20 degrees Fahrenheit; a humidity-controlled produce room; two humidity-controlled floral rooms; energy-efficient air doors; and several other technologies that will contribute to a safe and productive operation, said the grocer.

Stater Bros.’ v.p., produce division Roger Schroeder will accompany senior truck driver Danny Flores for the first delivery, the company said

The regional chain opened a new dry DC in February.

Stater Bros. operates 165 Supermarkets in California.
