Stater Bros. Raises $408K This Year for Muscular Dystrophy
COLTON, Calif. -- Regional independent Stater Bros. has raised $407,500 to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, bringing the retailer's 20-year total to more than $4 million.
The funds raised this year will send over 680 children to MDA Summer Camp for one week at no cost to their families, according to Stater Bros.
During the month of August and through Labor Day, all 162 Stater Bros. supermarkets participated in the MDA Aisles of Smiles program for "Jerry's Kids" campaign. Customers and employees of Stater Bros. raised funds by buying participating products and/or by purchasing $1 Paper Mobiles located at each checkout counter.
A check presentation took place Nov. 16 at the Rialto, Calif. Stater Bros., which collected the most money in the mobile portion of this year's fund raising campaign. Participating in the check presentation ceremony was 7-year-old Abbey Umali, California's Goodwill ambassador for MDA.
Stater Bros. operates 162 supermarkets and employs over17,000 associates.
