Stater Bros., C&S Help Feed the Hungry

This week Hormel Cure 81 Hams are being donated to various food banks and nonprofit organizations throughout the communities served by Stater Bros. The donation will feed 25,920 individuals in need and help provide meals for thousands of families at risk of hunger.

"The Stater Bros. family is very happy to give back to those in need this holiday season," said Jack H. Brown, chairman and c.e.o. of Stater Bros. "The Hams for Hunger campaign will help thousands of families in need in the communities we are privileged to serve," he added.

The number of hams being donated was determined through in-store promotions. All Stater Bros. Supermarkets participated in the Hams for Hunger promotional campaign.

The organizations receiving hams courtesy of Stater Bros. and Hormel include San Bernardino County Food Bank; Second Harvest Food Bank of Riverside & San Bernardino Counties; North County Food Bank (San Diego County); Operation Blessing International; San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department; Riverside County Sheriff's Department; Redlands Police Department; Children's Fund of San Bernardino County; Grace Resource Center in Lancaster; and Carol's Kitchen in Beaumont.

Stater Bros., a major contributor to local charities and community programs, currently operates 159 full-service supermarkets with 47 in San Bernardino County, 43 in Riverside County, 30 in Orange County, 27 in Los Angeles County, 10 in Northern San Diego County, and two in Kern County.

In related news, Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers and its associates have joined with over a dozen statewide and regional food banks to donate turkeys, providing thousands of families in need with a wholesome and nutritious holiday meal.

C&S c.e.o. Rick Cohen said in a statement: "We recognize the challenge faced by food banks, soup kitchens, food pantries, and shelters, especially at this time of year. Our donation of turkeys is one way of helping less fortunate families and individuals in our communities -- we're glad we can share and help others." C&S estimates that its donations could create an estimated 50,000 dinners.
