Six Retailers Call for Department-focused Approach to Data Sync
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Associated Food Stores, Associated Wholesale Grocers, Supervalu, Unified Western Grocers, Wal-Mart, and Wegmans Food Markets combined their voices in a chorus to urge suppliers to adopt a number of strategic activities to expand data synchronization.
The retailers were co-signers in a letter to suppliers released by data pool and provider of data synchronization services 1SYNC, based here. All are retailer customers of 1SYNC. Their directives to suppliers included a request to use the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) when synchronizing their data; and an initial implementation focus on specific product departments, including all consumer packaged goods, hardlines, HBC, and audio/video categories.
Wegmans c.e.o. Danny Wegman, a longtime advocate of data synchronization noted in a statement: "Focusing on key departments has helped Wegmans and our suppliers synchronize data effectively, and we believe the same approach will enable success across the industry."
The targeted approach is another step in industry efforts to expand the use of data synchronization to improve the accuracy of trading partner transactions, according to 1SYNC.
Said 1SYNC c.e.o. Robert Noe: "We appreciate the leadership these retailers are providing to the data synchronization initiative through their support of 1SYNC and the Global Data Synchronization Network. Their focus on these key categories will enable deeper adoption and continue to accelerate the growth and use of this technology."
1SYNC, a newly formed subsidiary of GS1 US, is the combination of Transora and UCCnet, two Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN)-certified data pools.
