Shop 'n Save St. Louis Stores Honored for Energy Efficiency
ST. LOUIS -- Twelve Shop 'n Save stores in the metro St. Louis area were recently honored with the prestigious Energy Star award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Energy Star is an EPA program that helps businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. To qualify for the Energy Star designation, a facility must meet the EPA's standards for energy efficiency, as well as strict industry standards for comfort and indoor quality, as verified by a professional engineer.
The following 12 Shop 'n Save stores will carry the Energy Star label: Alton, Belleville, Carlyle, and Collinsville 2 in Illinois, and Gravois, Harvester, Kirkwood, Maplewood, Mayfair, O'Fallon South, St. John, and St. Peters in Missouri.
The Energy Star label shows that these stores operate in the top 25th percentile with respect to electrical and natural gas energy efficiency, as compared with other supermarkets in the country. Each store received a bronze plaque to commemorate its selection. "We are dedicated to being good neighbors in all of our communities," said Marlene Gebhard, president of Shop 'n Save. "An important part of that is making sure we diligently monitor and invest in improving upon our energy use."
Supervalu, the parent company of Shop 'n Save, has more than 100 corporate retail stores that have earned the Energy Star label.
