Shipt Comes to Charleston
Shipt, the Birmingham, Ala.-based grocery delivery service, has added the Charleston, S.C., metropolitan area to its list of delivery regions, beginning Feb. 23. Currently, it delivers in 31 cities and their surrounding areas.
More than 92,000 households in the Charleston area will have access to the delivery service, with annual members who sign up before launch date receiving $25 off their first order. Members, who pay an annual membership fee of $99, can shop a full selection of groceries offered at local stores via the Shipt app, note any preferences, choose a one-hour delivery window and pay for their order. Shipt connects members with a community of shoppers who handpick ordered items and deliver them as soon as one hour following order placement.
“Charleston is a city of great food, style and business; there is so much to do in and around the city, and we welcome the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant community,” said Shipt founder and CEO Bill Smith. “We’re in the business of giving busy people their time back, and now with Shipt taking care of the grocery shopping, Charleston-area residents can spend more time enjoying everything the city has to offer.”
Leading up to the launch, Shipt plans to grow its network of shoppers, who are responsible for ensuring complete, accurate order fulfillment.
