Shaw's to Donate to Food Bank on National Hunger Awareness Day

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- To mark National Hunger Awareness Day today, Shaw's Supermarkets here is presenting a check for $3,300 to the Greater Boston Food Bank at the charitable organization's offices in Boston.

Shaw's communications manager Karen Peirce will be on hand at the 8:15 a.m. to present the check to food bank president and c.e.o. Catherine D'Amato.

To raise the amount, Shaw's used proceeds from the sales of its in-house "Easy" magazine, a holiday periodical offering customers recipes and seasonal tips, which launched between Thanksgiving and Christmas of last year. The supermarket chain has not only helped battle hunger through financial and food donations, but also by mobilizing hundreds of volunteers across New England to work at local food banks and provide food to needy families.

The aim of National Hunger Awareness Day is to raise awareness, food, and money for the fight to end hunger.
