Share Our Strength to Run Walmart Grocery Store Tours

Anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength will conduct two Shopping Matters grocery store tours on June 26 at a newly renovated Walmart location on Covington Drive in Baltimore. The interactive tours are led by volunteer nutrition and culinary experts who teach participants to compare unit prices, buy fruits and vegetables on a budget, compare food labels, and select whole grains. Shoppers can win a $10 gift card for taking part, and will also be able to visit healthy-eating stations around the store.

The morning and afternoon events are hosted by Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters, part of the organization’s “No Kid Hungry” campaign to end childhood hunger in America. The Walmart Foundation is a national sponsor of Cooking Matters, along with the ConAgra Foods Foundation.

A recent survey released by Washington, D.C.-based Share Our Strength found that 85 percent of low-income families want to make healthy meals, but only about half are able to do so regularly. Families cited the cost of healthy groceries as their main obstacle.
