Seiyu to Open Wal-Mart-Inspired Store in Japan
TOKYO - Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Japanese affiliate Seiyu Ltd. on Monday said it would open its first one-story large supermarket modeled after Wal-Mart's stores in April, Dow Jones Newswire reports.
The new supermarket will be built in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo. It will include a full range of merchandise, featuring clothing, food and home supplies, all at discount prices, a Seiyu spokesman said.
The store will have total floor space of 14,000 square meters including 8,000 square meters of sales space, the spokesman said. It will allow parking for 580 vehicles.
