Sedano’s Driven to Help Homeless Kids
Sedano’s Supermarkets and 560 WQAM Sports Radio have joined forces for the Inaugural Joe Rose Back to School Supply Drive in aid of Chapman Partnership, a Miami-based nonprofit organization that helps the homeless. The drive will run from July 29 to Aug. 23.
“Sedano’s Supermarkets is committed to serving the community through vital partnerships with such cause-worthy organizations like Chapman Partnership,” noted Javier Herrán, chief marketing officer of the Miami-based grocer, which is the largest Hispanic-owned supermarket in the United States, operating more than 34 stores.
“Our goal is to raise awareness and much-needed back-to-school supplies for the hundreds of homeless school children in our community,” said Joe Rose, a broadcaster at WQAM, which will air live to promote the drive at participating Sedano’s stores. “I’m asking everyone in Miami to donate what you can, whether a box of pencils or a full backpack of supplies, that will go directly to homeless school-age kids so they can start the school year off on the right foot.”
“Having WQAM, Joe Rose and Sedano’s sponsoring this Back to School Supply Drive will have a tremendous impact on our ability to provide all of our children with much needed school supplies for the new school year,” said Alec Rosen, marketing manager at Chapman Partnership, which operates two Homeless Assistance Centers, with a total of 800 beds, in Miami and Homestead, Fla., and provides a support program including emergency shelter, meals, health, dental and psychiatric care, day care, job training, job placement and assistance with securing stable housing.
There are currently 242 children living at the organization’s centers. On average, about 800 school-age children go through the centers each year.
Donations can be dropped off at five Sedano’s locations in Miami, Coral Gables and Homestead, or at either of Chapman Partnership’s two centers.
