Scott Schnuck Named Chairman; Todd Schnuck is New Prez
ST. LOUIS - Schnuck Markets here took the latest step in an ongoing top leadership transition this week when it named Scott Schnuck chairman of the family-owned grocery chain, and Todd Schnuck president.
The executive transition began at Schnuck's nearly a year ago, when Scott Schnuck, 56, took on the chief executive role. Craig Schnuck, Scott and Todd's oldest brother who has led the company for the past 17 years, stepped down as chairman and chief executive, and will now head the company's executive committee.
Part of the third generation of Schnucks, the three brothers will continue to run the 67-year-old business as a family, but Scott Schnuck now has full responsibility for the direction of the organization and all operating aspects of the company.
In his new role as president, Todd Schnuck now will have responsibility for all administrative functions including legal, human resources, finance, information technology, and the company's improvement initiative. He will continue to provide financial oversight for the family's real estate activities.
Craig Schnuck will remain involved in matters relative to company growth, as well as governmental and labor relations.
Scott Schnuck said the past year has been an important time of change. "We have been working on exciting ideas and innovations that literally will change the way our customers view their grocery shopping trip to Schnucks," he said. "Our customers tell us they are looking for creative and easy ideas on how to prepare nutritious meals for families on the go.
"In addition to focusing on value in the New Year," the new chairman said, "Schnucks will become more of a 'cook's helper' in terms of broadening our scope of offerings. You will see stronger emphasis on food and preparation, meal planning and food safety education as well as a more expanded health and wellness program in our pharmacies."
Scott Schnuck also cited the new instaClinic installations as one a milestone in the company's new focus on health and wellness.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Iowa.
