Schnucks Introduces Kaldi's Coffee to Southern Indiana Shoppers
A partnership that began two years ago between Schnuck Markets Inc. and Kaldi Coffee has brewed the fifth in-store coffee bar in the regional grocer's Newburgh, Ind., location.
Tricia Zimmer-Ferguson, spokeswoman for the Kaldi's - which specializes in roasting and selling an array of fine quality coffees and espressos - said its partnership with Schnucks has enabled the coffee company to introduce its product to new customers in a completely new market.
"This latest venture marks our entry into the southern Indiana area, where we are hoping to introduce new customers to our custom micro-roasted fine espressos, single-origin, blended, fair trade organic and decaffeinated coffees," Zimmer-Ferguson said.
The partners appear to be a good brew, since, like Schnucks, Kaldi's is also St. Louis-based and family owned.
Bill Mihu, Schnucks v.p. of bakery, who oversees all in-store Kaldi's operations, said the coffee bars feature Schnucks bakery offerings. "The coffee bar has been a great addition to our store offerings. Our customers are enjoying the pairing of flavorful blends of Kaldi's coffee with donuts, muffins, cookies and scones fresh from our bakery."
As an added customer convenience, Mihu said Wi-Fi capabilities are available in the in-store café.
Kaldi's roasts and blends more than 40 coffees and espressos for their own coffeehouses and for specialty markets, restaurants, coffeehouses, grocery stores, universities and offices in the Midwest. It specializes in organic and Fair Trade coffees, and uses traditional small-batch roasting techniques.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 105 stores (including five Logli stores) and 101 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
