Schnucks Begins Roll-out of Enterprise Pharmacy System

ST. LOUIS -- Regional independent Schnuck Markets Inc. yesterday went live with a new pharmacy technology solution aimed at increasing productivity, cutting costs, and optimizing revenue and cash flow.

The system is EnterpriseRx from Per-Se Technologies, Alpharetta, Ga., which is designed to allow pharmacies to centrally manage inventory in real-time, centrally fill prescriptions, and immediately access business data on any pharmacy, across the enterprise. So far, the technology is live at Schnucks' Cahokia, Ill. Pharmacy, and the chain will deploy it at all 99 pharmacies by year's end.

"Schnucks pharmacies operate in a competitive and rapidly changing business environment," said Curtis Hartin, R.Ph., director of pharmacy operations, Schnuck Markets. "With Medicare Part D and complex reimbursement processes, we need stronger reporting and administrative tools to excel. EnterpriseRx gives us that competitive edge as well as the ability to offer more convenience and higher levels of service for our customers. This system offers next generation pharmacy functionality and is a long-term investment for us."

Schnucks is a long-time user of Per-Se's Intelligent Network for prescription claims processing to third-party payers. The pharmacies continue to leverage network services such as pre- and post-editing to improve the claim adjudication process; RxSafety Advisor to manage medication safety; and average wholesale price resubmission services to automate the resubmission of claims to third-party payers.

Schnuck Markets has 102 stores in the Midwest, with 99 Schnucks Pharmacy locations in seven states: Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Iowa.
