SaveMart Launches 'Three-peat' of Free Antibiotic Program
MODESTO, Calif. - Regional independent Save Mart and S-Mart Foods' Pharmacies are joining the recent effort on the part of retailers to make healthcare more affordable by offering free Amoxicillin with a doctor's prescription for all patients during the months of October through March 2007--but while the effort is new for many retailers, it is not a new program for Save Mart.
The retailer started this program three years ago, recognizing early the need to help families with increasing prescription costs. The Free Amoxicillin program has helped more than 35,000 patients over the past two years, according to SaveMart.
"We selected Amoxicillin because it is a very effective antibiotic and most commonly prescribed by doctors for children and adults with bacterial infections," said Michele Snider, Save Mart's pharmacy director. "During the winter months it is common for viral infections to progress into secondary bacterial infections in the ear, nose, and chest. We care about the families in our communities and continually strive to keep them healthy."
Privately-owned Save Mart Supermarkets operates 124 stores throughout the Central Valley of California. Seventy-five stores operate as Save Mart; five stores as S-Mart Foods in Stockton and Lodi; and 44 are warehouse stores under the FoodMaxx banner.
