Sam's Club and Aquafina Launch Great American Cleanup Promotion

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Warehouse club retailer Sam's Club has teamed up with Pepsi-Cola North America's Aquafina water brand to launch a large-scale recycling program.

The initiative, called "Return the Warmth," involves the collection and recycling of plastic beverage bottles throughout the country in support of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, one of the nation's largest community improvement programs.

The 50 communities to collect the most bottles will receive a $1,000 grant from Sam's Club in addition to an assortment of fleece jackets containing recycled plastic bottle material to be distributed to children in the area. Millions of plastic beverage bottles are expected to be collected throughout the country during the initiative.

"The 'Return the Warmth' campaign and partnership with Keep America Beautiful and Aquafina has provided a great avenue for our associates to give back to the many communities we serve," said Doug McMillon, Sam's Club president and c.e.o. "We are pleased to partner with them in their quest to improve the quality of life for children nationwide."

Sam's Club and Aquafina are working together to build awareness of the program through in-store signage and customized Aquafina multi-packs that feature the Great American Cleanup logo with a message about recycling. Keep America Beautiful local affiliates are encouraging local participation in the "Return the Warmth" recycling program during the Great American Cleanup, which began March 1 and will continue through May 31, 2006.
