Roundy's Donates $40K in Food, Funds to Local Anti-Hunger Groups
MILWAUKEE - The charitable arm of Roundy's Supermarkets Inc. here doled out $40,000 in food and funds to five Milwaukee area organizations. One donation answered an emergency appeal from the Hunger Task Force, which identified a critical need for pasta due to a drop in government supplies of commodity food.
Responding with nearly 14,000 pounds valued at just more than $14,000, Roundy's Foundation donation was distributed to a local network of food pantries to needy families through winter and until its next government shipment.
The company also held a special holiday celebration at its headquarters, where Roundy's Foundation v.p. Colleen Stenholt, presented grants to the following four organizations:
-- 10-34 Wisconsin -- $3,000 for its prevention education program aimed at protecting youth from sexual abuse.
-- Welfare Warriors -- $4,000 for its MOMS Survival Line SAFE project that provides counsel for mothers facing domestic violence and other crises.
-- Milwaukee Women's Center -- $6,000 for its comprehensive programs that help fight domestic abuse.
-- Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee - A half-truck load of food for its "Feed the Kids" Program, which will be delivered shortly after the first of the year.
