Publix Names VP of Manufacturing
LAKELAND, Fla.--Publix Super Markets, Inc., named Mike Smith v.p. of manufacturing, to become effective July 1, 2005. Smith will assume the responsibilities of Scott Charlton, who was recently named s.v.p. of manufacturing and distribution.
While attending Murray State University in Kentucky to earn his BA in business, Smith worked summers at Publix's Lakeland grocery warehouse. He transferred to the company's deli plant in 1988 as shipping/receiving manager. His Publix career includes positions as manufacturing/supply purchasing analyst, manufacturing/supply purchasing manager and director of deli and bakery manufacturing. In 2004, he assumed the additional responsibility of fresh foods departments and was named director of fresh product manufacturing.
