Publix Appoints New Board Member

Steve Knopik was elected to Publix Super Market's board of directors at the company's annual stockholders' meeting this week.

“His strong retail and financial background and commitment to the community will make him a strong addition to our board,” said Charlie Jenkins Jr., chairman of the board of Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix.

Knopik has spent 28 years at Bradenton, Fla.-based apparel retailer Beall’s Inc., starting as director of finance in 1984 and eventually rising to his current position of CEO. Before joining Beall’s, he began his career in 1977 with global accounting and auditing firm KPMG. Knopik currently serves on the board advisory council for the Florida Retail Federation, and is also a member of the board of directors of the Palmetto Youth Center and of the Academy Prep Foundation.

Privately owned and operated by its 157,500 employees, Publix has 1,068 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
