Price Chopper to Carry Wild Oats Branded Products

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets here has become the first independently owned retailer to sign on to sell Wild Oats branded natural and organic products. The grocer will carry "hundreds" of the super natural chain's items at all 115 of its stores in six Northeastern states.

"We are thrilled to expand and enhance our strong natural and organic product offer with the addition of hundreds of Wild Oats branded products," said Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub in a statement. "Wild Oats is a definitive leader in this field, and our agreement with them allows us to provide their well-regarded natural and organic foods, holistic supplements, and environmentally friendly body care products in various categories throughout the store for our customers here in the Northeast."

Continued Golub: "We want to carry as many items as our customers want to buy, and will continue to build the brand with our new partners. We are currently in the process of re-planogramming our shelves to handle the new products. In order to ensure smooth replenishment in our stores, we are retrofitting our warehouse to incorporate the entire line, and will start distribution just after the holiday season."

The assortment includes cookies and snacks, cheeses, imported Italian sodas, and everyday staples, offering natural and organic alternatives to mainstream brands.

"The Wild Oats brand name has come to represent quality and integrity, and we are pleased that interest is growing among leading retailers like Price Chopper in the U.S. -- as well as internationally -- in the Wild Oats line of branded products," said Wild Oats chairman and c.e.o. Gregory Mays. "By selecting Wild Oats as their brand of choice for natural and organic foods, Price Chopper has demonstrated their commitment to providing customers with a wide selection of new and exciting products that meet a growing need for healthier alternatives."

Made from high-quality ingredients, the product line employs attractive packaging that provides information about the advantages of natural and organic foods. Wild Oats has already formed partnerships with Ahold-owned Stop & Shop and Internet retailers Peapod and Amazon to carry its store-brand items.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 25,000 associates collectively own 54 percent of the company's privately held stock.

Boulder, Colo.-based Wild Oats Markets currently operates 114 natural and organic food stores in 24 states and the Canadian province of British Columbia. The retailer's banners include Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Henry's Farmers Markets, Sun Harvest, and Capers Community Markets.
