Price Chopper Awards Scholarships

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Price Chopper this week, through the Golub Foundation, awarded $52,000 in scholarships to nine high school students and a Providence, R.I. college graduate. They're among an elite group of 10 scholarship winners from the six states in which Price Chopper operates.

"These are scholarships that are available both to associates and students in the community at large," Mona Golub, manager of public relations & consumer services, told Progressive Grocer. "They can apply either by coming into a Price Chopper and picking up an application, or by phoning or e-mailing us through our Web site. We have gotten thousands of applications. It is really tough to pick."

Students winning this year's scholarships plan on attending Yale, Harvard, SUNY Potsdam, MIT, and other top-notch colleges and universities.

Golub said Price Chopper and the Golub Foundation have been offering the scholarships for "well over three decades."

"We also have an associate scholarship program that is entirely for associates, and we award 1,350 of those annually," she added.
