PMA Grows P.R., Government Relations Staff

NEWARK, Del. -- The Produce Marketing Association (PMA) has hired career journalist and media relations specialist Tom Hubbard as its new director of public relations, and named Lee Mannering, its long-time media coordinator, to the new position of government relations manager.

"The enhanced staffing is a direct result of extensive market and member research that identified the need to add staff resources in the areas of public relations and government relations to more effectively serve our members and the trade press," said PMA President Bryan Silbermann of the management changes.

With 17 years of journalism experience, Hubbard joins PMA following nine years of specializing in government, media, and marketing relations. He was also on the news staff of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Philadelphia/Wilmington affiliate, WHYY Inc.

Before taking on the government relations post, Mannering spent a decade in a variety of roles for PMA's communications department. Working under the general direction of PMA's v.p. of government relations, Kathy Means, Mannering now is responsible for helping to create and implement strategic government relations initiatives for the trade group; providing members with resources on government relations; managing government relations content on PMA's Web site; and monitoring new developments in legislative and regulatory affairs that affect the produce industry.
